Veteran's Week

Dear families,

This week is a short week with no school on Thursday. I hope everyone takes time to remember those who serve our country and have served in the past. Thursday is Veteran's Day and a day to remember and be thankful for our many blessings and freedoms.

Due to the short week there will be no spelling words or POW this week. We will read non-fiction stories in reading groups and focus on drawing conclusions. In math we will add and subtract decimals to the thousandths and begin working on two step equations.

This week you will work with your Biztown business groups. We will go over each business assignments and discuss how you will work at Biztown. It is important that you be here each afternoon this week so that you can spend time with your group for next week's field trip. I will send home an information sheet with all of the field trip details later this week.

Don't forget about our Science Fair assignments. This week we will go over the scientific method in class and you will have the opportunity to look for experiments in the computer lab on Tuesday for those still needing some ideas. Your science fair question is due this Friday, no exceptions.

Homework will be lighter this week with no spelling words. Please remember to write it down each day in your agenda, this is your bellwork every morning.

Welcome Back from Fall Break!

Good Evening 5th grade!

Welcome back from fall break. I hope you all had a restful three weeks. Our classroom has been rearranged and we are ready to get back to learning. Please don't forget the time we spend the next few days reviewing rules and procedures. They are important to me and I appreciate your willingness to learn them in a timely manner so class time isn't wasted.

Below you will find your weekly homework assignments. Remember, we are not using the composition book anymore. Papers for your assignments will be given to you in class and you are responsible for making sure they are in your binder, in your backpack, when you leave at the end of the day. It is also your responsibility to turn in your homework the next day. Homework is no longer due on Fridays (with the exception of the POW). Reading logs are done by the honesty policy. I will not be checking reading logs but will know if you are reading at home by your participation in AR.

I am excited to start the second quarter off on the right foot. I know that we are going to have a lot of fun preparing for our Biztown field trip, getting started on the Science Fair and working with fractions. I will see you all in the morning ready to learn and ACT. Sleep tight!

Friday- Read for 20 minutes and spend time with your family!

Short Week- September 7th

Happy Labor Day!

I hope everyone enjoys their 3 day weekend. Mrs. DeBono has great plans that include lots of sleep and pleasure reading! Hence why, it's Friday night and the blog is being updated for next week already.

Please note that this upcoming short week is Benchmark 1 testing. Students, it's time to SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW!! Please keep in mind that early bedtimes, healthy breakfasts and positive encouragement are great test-taking strategies for success. I cannot wait to see the growth of the students in just these few first weeks of school.

Because of testing, our curriculum is not regularly what you see during the week. Below is our testing week homework. There are no spelling words or a P.O.W. this week.

Homework:
Tuesday- Complete the 10 question reading review packet. Read for 20 minutes.
Wednesday- Complete the 10 question math review packet. Read for 20 minutes.
Thursday- Creative writing assignment and cursive practice. Read for 20 minutes.
